How I Killed my Phone Virus - Symantec The Guru
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
It happens so that I get to see some good pictures in my friends mobile and ask him if he can send it to me through bluetooth and he did transfer some of them. Well that's all I did and the next day onwards, my mobile battery starts draining out even though its fully charged. One more surprise was that it tries to send MMS to some random numbers with some autogenerated text contents but luckily I didnt have MMS enabled, so all those messages were in my outbox and had to delete them. This started happening everyday. Totally confused I searched the web for virus information and found that its a virus called CommWarrior.Looking further I found the antivirus in the symantec website.
Symantec releases a beta version free for download to protect Symbian devices from mobile viruses. Looking at a integrated security solution that combines antivirus and firewall protection, Symantec Mobile Security comes at a much needed time with the increasing spread of the MMS-transmitted CommWarrior and Bluetooth-based Cabir viruses.
Devices can be configured remotely by the administrator to pick up virus definitions and product updates either directly from the Symantec LiveUpdate servers (through a wireless Internet connection), or from an internal network.
Symantec Mobile Security supports the Symbian Series 60 and Series 80 platforms. I was lucky enough as I was using Nokia 6600. Thanks to Symantec, while writing this blog I just cleared all the virus in my mobile. Whew! I am relaxed...
